Mike Massimino took home plate from Shea Stadium. He’s returning it to the Mets new ballpark on Friday.
A shuttle astronaut, Massimino took home plate with him on his most recent trip on the space shuttle. It was with him, aboard Atlantis, when he serviced the Hubble Space Telescope.

Hubble gets company—and “competition”
The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is getting company in the form of a repair crew from the shuttle Atlantis.
But the HST is also getting another kind of company: two more space telescopes were launched today. An Arianne 5 rocket put the European space telescopes, Herschel and Planck, into space.
Herschel has a 3.5m diameter mirror and [...]
Atlantis headed to repair Hubble
The shuttle Atlantis is heading for the final repair mission to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). It’s an important and dangerous mission.
Tough repair job
The difficulty of repair is unprecedented—parts of the telescope NOT designed to be accessible or fixable will be fixed. Also, unlike most shuttle missions, this flight will be unable to dock with [...]

In fact, he was a star forward for two consecutive championship teams at the University of Chicago, in the early 1900s.
Now, an [...]
Hubble Telescope Working Again!
The main camera on the Hubble Space Telescope is working again. Following weeks of work to get the backup of the camera working (the primary one failed), NASA finally met with success.
The camera now being used is 18 years old, and had never been used before. Must have an extended warranty!
Hubble Looking Good!
The repair work on the Hubble Space Telescope is, by all reports, going well.
The Hubble is 18 years old! The current repair will be the 5th servicing mission. Images from the Hubble have, of course, always excited astronomers. Perhaps equally important, Hubble images have captured the imagination of the public as well.
If all goes well, [...]
