NASA re-organize? Just say “no”
Now NASA is expected to re-organize. Why? Maybe to make up for the failures of the government to provide a steady budget that’s necessary to complete a multi-year project? Maybe because people somehow expected the agency to develop a new generation of space vehicles without unforeseeable s cost over-runs?
Yeah. That must be it…
Now, NASA is not perfect, but they flew manned missions to the moon, and space probes to the ends of the solar system. They managed to run well over a hundred shuttle missions with two fatal mishaps over decades. And the shuttle is an incredibly dangerous vehicle.
So..let’s tell it like it is. The big failure with our space program is the people in Washington who interfere and underfund. They make big promises (both Bush’s literally promised the moon…and Mars) and skimp on the budget.
So I’m more than a little miffed about the “need” for NASA to come up with a new organizational structure to deal with uncertain funding. The answer to uncertain funding is this: no multi-year projects without sufficient budget. Let Congress and the president build their own manned spacecraft.
But, if you need the near-impossible done, fund NASA and step back.
