Changing of the space station?
I must admit, I didn’t know a thing about this. In passing, in this article, it mentions the planned 2016 retirement of the International Space Station.
Retirement? So soon? We’re just about to complete building it!
Big meeting on future space station
The thrust of the article is that some groups—including the European Space Agency and Roscosmos (the Russian space group)—will meet in the Netherlands in June to discuss building a new space station to be used as an “orbiting shipyard.” From this new space station, flights to the moon and Mars could be launched.
The new space station, if it happens, is planned to be ready about 2025. That’s the same year the Chinese hope to have their own space station ready. The Chinese are also planning to attend the meeting.
