Atlantis headed to repair Hubble
The shuttle Atlantis is heading for the final repair mission to the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). It’s an important and dangerous mission.
Tough repair job
The difficulty of repair is unprecedented—parts of the telescope NOT designed to be accessible or fixable will be fixed. Also, unlike most shuttle missions, this flight will be unable to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) in an emergency.
For this reason, a second shuttle is poised for a possible rescue mission.
Hubble’s great; coming next—Webb!
Good luck crew! We’d love to get a few more excellent years out of the Hubble. Although, I must admit, I’m also looking forward to the new Webb space telescope—a magnificent astronomical device named after the late NASA administrator, James Webb. That device will be launched in 2014.
