Tweets from space
I just added myself to the nearly 23,000 followers of T.J. Creamer, an astronaut currently aboard the International Space Station. This morning, Creamer became the first person to live “tweet” from space. His historic tweet said “Hello Twitterverse!”
I’m also following two of his crew mates.
Some years back, I received (forwarded to me) an email from an a shuttle astronaut who had been invited to dinner aboard the ISS. He praised the food.
But, what exactly is new today? Just that an astronaut used a trendy new internet service? Or something more significant?
Astronauts finally have live internet. For years, astronauts could send email and do other things over the internet…routed through NASA at certain times. Now they can tweet just like you.
And their internet connection is a good one. Reportedly, they get speed of 3Mbps up and 10Mbps down. Which is nice, because it’s a long way down.
