Tourist trips to the International Space Station to End…or Not…

The crew of the International Space Station is scheduled to increase from 3 to 6. And, at that point, there may be no “rooms at the inn” for space tourists who pay upwards of $20 million for a visit.

Your Seat Is Taken

And the Russian Space Agency suggests that, after this year, there may be no seats available on their Soyuz spacecraft available to rent for the trip.

The Tourism Trips May Continue

Space Adventures, the company which had been selling these trips, suggests otherwise. They are planning to sell trips on a Soyuz spacecraft that they actually purchase. We’re talking about a Soyuz space flight that would be 100% commercial.

But Where Can We Park?

But there’s another potential problem. With all that expanded activity aboard the ISS, there may not only be too few rooms, but no available docking ports for a tourist vehicle.

This is all very confusing, and it will be interesting to see how it all actually turns out. In the meantime, space tourist Charles Simonyi is still a “go” for his second trip which will launch on March 25th.
