Linsday: Will command final shuttle flight.

The final shuttle flight, currently scheduled to launch September 16, 2010 will have a crew of six veteran astronauts.

  • Eric Boe (pilot), will be making his second flight. Previously, he flew as pilot of STS-126 in 2008.
  • Benjamin Drew (mission specialist) previously flew on STS-118 in 2007.
  • Timothy Kopra just completed a shuttle mission, having been launched aboard STS-127 and returned to earth via STS-128 on September 11.
  • Michael Barratt is a doctor, and is currently on his first flight, aboard the ISS. He arrived via Soyuz and will return on a Russian spacecraft. So, although the Discovery flight will be his second space mission, it will be his first (and only) aboard a shuttle.
  • Nicole Stott is currently in space, serving as a flight engineer aboard the ISS.
  • Steven Lindsey (Commander) has flown four times before; STS-87 (1997); STS-95 (1998); STS-104 (2001); STS-121 (2006). Lindsay commanded his two most recent flights. He is also currently head of the Astronaut Office, but will be stepping down from that post.

The final shuttle mission will be bringing equipment to the International Space Station.
