Return to Tranquility Base in 2010?!
A private firm will attempt to send an unmanned rover to the Apollo 11 landing site by 2010…and win a $20 million dollar prize.
The prize won’t, of course, cover the cost of the mission. But Astrobotic Technology Inc. would win the Google Lunar X Prize and beat out the other 13 competitors if successful.
How To Win
To win the prize, a privately funded firm must land a rover at Tranquility Base, drive it for 500 meters and send HD television images back to earth. And this must be accomplished by the end of 2010. Astrobotic Technology is shooting to get it s vehicle (called Artemis) to its target by May.
