My small space exhibit

This hard hat was owned by a blockhouse worker who was at all the Mercury & Gemin manned launches

I’ve been wanting to produce space exhibits for a long time. In the last few years, I’ve loaned some historic artifacts I own to the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. That was great—but I wasn’t curating. And I want to curate.

Now, I’ve got a (small) exhibit showing in a library branch here in Philadelphia. I call it “Survey of Space: Adventures Above the Planet“. It’s a good exhibit, considering the limitations. I had a tiny budget and a single glass case to work with.

Still, the exhibit gives a nice outline of space travel history for novices; and a few lessor-known tidbits for more knowledgeable people. And, for both, there’s a pretty good selection of artifacts: flight plans, clothing, documents, badges.

If you’re in Philly, and can get there—you might want to see it. For me, I hope it’s only the beginning of more to come. I want to do bigger exhibits, and tell great stories to make the subject interesting to a wider audience. Maybe I’ll work my way up to that. I’ll keep trying.
