NASA instruments riding aboard an Indian lunar probe are giving us a new view of the moon: inside craters.
Cold, dark craters—north and south
The first pictures show craters at the lunar poles—both north and south. Scientists hope to find water ice inside. But the instruments are still being calibrated and prepared for a more thorough investigation. The search is just beginning.
Revisiting Apollo sites, photographically
Earlier this month it was announced that the Indian moon probe, Chandrayaan-1, had photographically mapped the topography of 5 Apollo landing sites. This included Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15 and 17. As you probably recall, Apollo 13 failed to land. Why Apollo 16 was overlooked is a mystery to me.
