Inflatable Space Station company hiring astronauts
Bigelow Aerospace, a company that is developing inflatable space stations (and hotels!) is seeking astronauts. Seems premature and slightly bizarre…but Bigalow is probably a real player.
Their space stations won’t exactly be “inflatable”—that was tongue in cheek—but they do expand after launch. The founder of Bigelow, Robert Bigelow, made his money from his company Budget Suites. He put $180 million into his space company and has kept at it since 1998.
Bigelow Aerospace has successfully launched 2 prototypes. They are currently unmanned—but they obviously plan to send up something manned in the future.
The “help wanted ad” begins with this:
Bigelow Aerospace seeks professional astronauts to fill permanent positions. Qualified applicants need to have completed a training program from their government or recognized space agency and have at least some flight experience on a recognized space mission. Specialized training and/or experience (ie: Medical, Payload Specialist, EVA, Pilot, etc.) is not a pre-requisite, but is definitely a plus.
