Female Japanese Astronauts for $200, Alex.

japanese_astronautThe Japanese are excited about their next woman astronaut to fly. Naoko Yamazaki, who has a 6 year old daughter, will be the second female Japanese astronaut to fly. She’s set to be aboard the shuttle Atlantis in February 2010.

I remember the previous one. As it happens, I was in Japan at the time.

The astronaut, Chiaki Mukai, flew 2 shuttle missions, the second one in 1998.That mission, STS-95 also featured the return to space of 78 year old John Glenn. The headline in Japan read: “Japanese Astronaut, Seven Others Launched Aboard Shuttle”.
