Rocketplane: Possible launches from Hawaii

Rocketplane: Possible launches from Hawaii

New Mexico’s “Spaceport America” had a successful launch last week. And now Hawaii is looking to get its own spaceport.

Because of the budget crisis, the state’s governor, Linda Lingle, may decide not to release the $500,000 required to get a spaceport license. Or, in order to promote her state in the growing private space industry, she may spend the money.

A number of private launch companies, including Rocketplane Global, have been eyeing Hawaii as one possible launch site. Sometime in the future, Rocketplane hopes to offer sub-orbital flights for $200,000. Paying passengers would travel to an altitude of 62 miles—just making it into space.

If Hawaii does get a spaceport license, it would be the 8th state to do so.

Also, Abu dhabi is probably going to get the next Virgin Galactic space port after the recent deal between virgin galactic and Aabar Investments! A lot of money has been paid from AI to VG so it would seem spaceport 2 will be there!
