Cheese to be sent into space (almost)
Everybody’s getting into the act. Now, to mark the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing, British cheese makers hope to send some cheddar to the edge of space.
Okay, so the astronauts didn’t find that the moon was made of cheese. That didn’t discourage Philip Crawford, chairman of the West Country Farmhouse Cheesemakers group. He calls the upcoming flight “a giant leap for cheesekind.”
Actually, the cheese-craft won’t get all that close to space. The plan is to put the cheese into a capsule launched by a weather balloon to a height of about 18.6 miles. Space actually begins a little over 60 miles high.
