“Retro” rocket to appear at “burning man”
A team of visionaries plan to launch a 40 foot rocketship in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. The rocket has its own fictional story, including the “fact” that it was invented in the 1940s. It’s being called the “Raygun Gothic Rocket.”
If you want to see 1940′s pulp science fiction at full size in real life, you’ll need to attend this year’s Burning Man event.
The spaceship won’t actually be going anywhere. But thousands will be coming by to see it. Features include: a lovely pilot’s seat, with controls; hand cranked (40s style) radio communications; and an actual working telescope observatory.
Should be fun. It was scheduled to be shown yesterday, on September 4th, but I haven’t been able to confirm that the rocket was ready to unveil on that date. Either it’s on display now or it will be soon.
